A well written account by a sea captain about his voyage in 1699 to Timor Island. I enjoyed reading this a great deal. He gives little details about his trip. It makes it feel like you're there with him on the trip. He was quite good at writing considering his main profession was seafaring. I will look for more volumes like this one. I highly recommend this and it's a fairly quick read.

As a historical book it was a great read and brought to light the talents of an outstanding voyager who's followers were able to makegreat use of his observations.More people should be aware of his contributions to history.

I bought this as an interest (I am a science teacher with a love of history) but couldn't really get into it.

Like all of William Dampier' works on exploation, and Voyages, all should be read, their is no doubt in my mind that he was nothing less than a highly inteteligent man, The odd thing to me is he was not the best in controling crews, but an excellent navigator, and a great writer. Jim D.
