I really enjoy reading this book. The book contains a lot of great real-life examples that really make psychology easy to understand. The concepts, ideas and facts in this book are really well explained. The book is well written and flows very smoothly from topic to topic. It is really easy to read and understand this book.Overall I'm very happy with this book and recommend it.

I admit, I love psychology, so I suspected I'd like the book.*But still I was amazed at how good this text was. It goes into a decent amount of depth (including related structures of the brain and neurotransmitters/receptors), as well as touching on important people in Psych without dwelling overly much. Every 3rd page or so has a relevant comic that brings the points home. For once, I actually read every page assigned, and then found myself telling friends what I'd learned or making them read it for themselves.Sadly, the Hockenbury's have not written a text for Abnormal Psych.*I've since learned that it doesn't always work out this way -- I also love sociology, but my sociology text is absolutely boring, while my abnormal psych book is so thin that I suspect it was written for precocious elementary students. So, yeah -- even if you hate psych, I'm pretty sure you'll find it bearable to study the subject with this text.

I can't imagine anyone would be buying this book other than for a Psychology class and for that purpose, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed reading each chapter. Each chapter begins with an interesting story that introduces the main topic. Then the author ties the story into all the key points that should be learned about each topic. Important definitions are listed separately on the side of the page. The authors also include their biased opinions, but in a way that added to the enjoyment of reading the material, even when I didn't always agree with how it was presented.I have mostly had good luck purchasing textbooks on Amazon for much less than the campus bookstore, but I would recommend checking seller feedback before purchasing. If the seller has very little feedback, contact them ahead of time to make sure they didn't forget about their posting. I once placed an order and never received it because the seller forgot to check the status of their listed items.

I needed this for my Psychology class and I was surprised at how much I really liked this book. Even though the sole reason of purchase was for class the author breaks everything down in terms that are understandable. Each chapter opens with a story that expresses the themes of each chapter. I like how each story correlates with every chapter. Easy to read, and very enjoyable

Holy moly what an expensive book for the time. (2012). The cost of the class was 1200 dollars and the book was about 100 dollars at the time. But boy howdy do I remember basic psychology? Oh wait, that didn't cover that at all. It was just Freud and a bunch of stupid bullcrap, because years later I don't remember what was in it. I tried to resell it to future students, even tried giving it away, but I think it eventually became firestarter since no soul wanted the contents or burden of this awful, painstakingly boring, and low informational book.

I studied out of this book on and off for about 4 months for a distance learning course and for the Intro To Psych CLEP examination as well. I ended up scoring a 74/80 on my CLEP exam and passed my distance learning course (have not received letter grade yet). I found the book to be informative and clear in its descriptions and illustrations. I enjoyed the order of the subjects and believe it was well thought out. I highly recommend using the accompanying study guide to solidify learning and assess where you stand. My only complaint is that the website advertised on the book was only semi-functional and in a state of disrepair. Overall, if you dedicated to your studies, you cannot go wrong with this book and will pass any Introductory PSYCH class or examination.

This book was required for a core psychology class at my college. The book does have a wide range of topics and is fairly cheap if bought used. However, some of the material is difficult to find good examples of or just difficult to find in general. This led to some hectic nights of cramming. My other complaint is the way that the chapters are organized in the book. The chapters are in a order that could make more sense. For example, memory is not until chapter six, whereas if it was earlier in the book, students could learn about how they remember and then make their studying habits more efficient.ProsPriceAmount of contentCase studies and experiments are listed, showing where some of the theories came fromConsSometimes material seemed to lack examplesChapters seemed out of order

This book has really served the purpose for me, it's a great book to learn from and to read for personal reasons. I needed this book for my psychology class that I'm currently taking and my professor recommended this book for our class along with the 6th edition. This book has been really helpful to me. Thank you so much and it was really a good deal on the book compared to going to the school book store and paying $175. I want to thank the person that shipped the materials to me because they also included the study guide as well that was really a big bargin for me. Once again thank you sooooooo much for all of your services. AMOZON IS THE BEST OUT THERE !!!!!!!!!!! keep up the good work.
