FA Basic Science is perfect!!!! Whenever i want to review some hystology, micro, etc.... it's the one to check. If your FA for the USMLE Step 1 may lack something for background review, you'll find it here.

This is one of the best books I purchased online, it is written very clearly and has lots of pictures and colourful diagrams. Sometimes it is a little repetitive but overall it is an excellent book.

Very easy to read and comprehensive. Currently using it in conjunction with medical school lectires. Good review for key material but not as detailed as a textbook by no means.

I've only just started using this book for our metabolism block, and already I've identified a number of major errors. In the PPP/HMP Shunt, for example, the book states that Glucose-6-Phosphate Dehydrogenase is responsible for phosphorylating glucose to glucose-6-phosphate in a key diagram of the pathway. No, it's the subsequent step -- G6P to 6 Phosphogulconolactone -- that is catalyzed by G6DP!Another thing -- the book states that it is GLUCAGON SYNTHASE that synthesizes glycogen in both the text and the diagram. WRONG. It's GLYCOGEN SYNTHASE. C'mon.

I bought this in my first year of med school because everyone from my class was buying it. It is a good review book for subjects like micro and biochem, but I don't consider it a most have for the step.

The formatting for the kindle is horrible. All the pictures and mnemonics will be a few pages before or after where that subject is actually discussed. Then none of the information is tabbed as it is with the paperback, everything is just placed on line after line of information, as though this was a text file.In addition, the photos are of terrible resolution. Often times, you can't even read the tables/graphs/charts because you can't read the words. They should just offer a high quality PDF of the book, which you can "find" online if you really look. It's a shame that people who want to spend money for a book end up with this junk, better off "finding" it online. Ridiculous.
