    This book is filled with the best soup recipes I've ever come across. I made the chili recipe from the book and entered it in a band chili contest and received best tasting. I've made various recipes for friends and family and always am asked for the recipes. So far I have not had a single recipe in this book that I have not enjoyed. If you love soups, this is the book for you!

    I am having weight loss surgery next week and I have been using this book to pre-make dishes i'll be allowed to eat after my surgery during the liquid/soft diet stage. First, I love that many recipes use potatoes as a thickener instead of cream or flour. Making it more figure friendly. So far I have made about 3 or 4 of the soups and they have turned out quite good. My favorite definitely being the roasted garlic and onion soup. Oh boy! That is one of the best soups I've ever had!!!!All in all I think it has a great variety of soups for all different seasons, different events, and different textures/consistencies. Granted, I have the book translated into swedish (as I live in Sweden). And I don't have the firmest grasp on the swedish language yet, so I find I often have to use google translate to figure out a step. But all in all I find it to be concise and easy to follow. Most ingredients I've seen in the book should be easy to attain no matter which side of the pond your on.I give it 2 thumbs up!

    I bought this book at a local bookstore because it was all about soup and it was on sale. I was delighted when I was browsing this book because there were so many ways to make soups. I also learned the importance of stocks in making soups. Stocks gave the flavor to the ordinary soup. The photos were also enticing, giving a new twist in soup making. Some zesty soup recipes in this book: soup & ginger, chicken soup with tarragon, chicken chilli soup, pea & ham, bacon/ham/vegetable, ham/potato/chive chowder, pea & mint, roasted pumpkin soup, sweet potato & curry, black bean soup with salsa & chips, red onion/chorizo/chickpea, chickpea/garlic/coriander, mushroom & rice noodle soup, corn chowder with roasted red pepper, minestrone, miso & udon noodle soup, smoked fish chowder,spring vegetable & pancetta soup, Tuscan bean soup with parsley pesto,carrot soup with dill pesto,Canadian cheddar and lager soup,cream of spinach/coconut/nutmeg,Thai pumpkin soup,Moroccan spiced carrot soup,avocado & cucumber soup,red pepper/paprika/orange soup,chili chicken & brown rice soup,prawn laksa,chicken dumpling & noodle soup,lobster bisque, mushroom & chestnut soup, etc.

    First, I think the publication information accompanying this book is incorrect. The Amazon page says this book was published in 1969. I own the very copy under discussion, and it was copyrighted and published in 2006.The book is excellent: well-organized, and the recipes are simple to follow and well-written. There's a photo with every recipe. I like the unusual way the soups are organized: Classic; Chunky; Smooth; Chilled; Spicy; and Special Occasions. I definitely use the section organization -- I either feel like a "chunky" soup or a chilled one or a spicy one, and so on.Nicely done!
