Homer, a bold and smart-mouthed angel, has been in isolation for nine-hundred years. She misbehaves and tests the boundaries of God, which was what put her in isolation in the first place. She doesn't like the simpering League of Angels members, especially Gabriel--she has no place for such a goody two-shoes--and she doesn't trust God and cares little what anyone thinks of her. Despite her fussiness and track record of failure, she's sent to Earth to do what needs to be done. Her mission is to help Tom summers, a struggling columnist for an expanding magazine empire in Los Angeles--to Homer, the epicenter of Western egocentrism and inauthenticity. She must help him publish a book that would ultimately change Earth's fate. Unsure how to accomplish her task, she wants more of God's help or for Him to send Tom a sign, but always a stickler for free will, God won't let her interfere with humanity. Still, it's up to her to save the world, she believes God is against her, and time is ticking. No pressure. Left to her own devices, Homer wonders whether humanity is worth saving. She believes humans to be violent, self-centered brats. Earth itself is a trash heap, already polluted by all of God's chosen people. Is there anything left to save? Tom, along with some other eccentric Earth-walkers, might change her perspective, but in the end, the fate of the world rests in Homer's angelic hands.

Homer, a misbehaving angel, with a tenacious attitude and a mouth that would make Gabriel cringe is sent back to Earth to help a struggling columnist publish a book that will save the world- or so God says. God has removed Homer from nine-hundred years of isolation for her bad behavior and given her this mission of extreme importance so that she may redeem herself but Homer, even after being in isolation for nine-hundred years, is still distrusting of God and she isn't afraid to let him know it. Yet, it's her job to find a way to get the book published- but there is one major obstacle: She can't use her angelic powers to get it done. She has to play by God's rule of free will which exists in a world of humans- who are seen by her as being violent, self centered brats. Even so, the fate of the world is at stake and Homer is the one who has to save it- and she has very little time to do it.I enjoyed reading this book. The humor value is good as the interactions between Homer and God gave me more than a few chuckles but it also brings back all of those age old questions of why does a loving, caring God act the way he does? Even Homer, a God sent angel on a mission, has to endure living on the streets and sleeps at night in a cardboard box. This being the authors first novel- I found it to be easy to read and the characters were likable and interesting. The only thing that kept the star rating hovering between a 3 and 4 was the slowness in developing the plot between a few of the main characters. I really enjoyed Homer a lot and looked forward to the story to swing back to her and her earthly adventures. The book gets better as you turn the pages and it especially delivered it's best near the end.

Exciting and satisfying work from a first-time author. King is able to weave a number of different story lines into a coherent whole, an extremely difficult proposition for even the most seasoned writer. As the individual stories become more and more intertwined, just try and put the book down and walk away. Won't happen. A difficult and complex tale in the beginning leads to a credible and almost inspiring conclusion. King's work deserves your time and his future writings deserve your full attention

I just finished this book and loved it. It was unpredictable and compelling, just the way a good story should be. You HAVE to finish it because you really can't imagine what the outcome will be. The characters are funny, flawed and very human. While the big idea is complex, the author delivers his theories in small digestible bites...makes you think, makes you care and makes you want to keep reading. A good read, a great ride and keeps you thinking long after the last page. I highly recommend

I recently found out about this book at a local mystery book store that normally carries a very selective list of authors that is pre-screened by the bookstore. I decided to look it up on Amazon and sure enough - they carry it! I think Terry King is a first-time author (cuz I couldn't find any other books by him). He's witty and has a very easy-to-read style and I hope he has other books to come! I love reading books by these independent authors and the story about Homer is simply fascinating and apparently, there is a book trailer about this book too? Very creative read! I definitely recommend it!

The Silent Partner manages to tell a variety of stories that can speak to any reader. Everyday life interactions and scenarios bring light to the reality that all the characters are collectively part of a bigger plan. I find the ending to the book ironic in comparison to Tom's (main character) novel which added a simple twist behind Terrance King's writing style. I thoroughly enjoyed this first time novel and look forward to more to come!

What really stands out to me about The Silent Partner is how well you can see the story unfolding in your mind, like you're watching a movie. That's the skill in King's writing...each description and scene is so vivid that it draws you in and you experience what the character experiences. The idea of this book had me curious right from the beginning and it only gets more intriguing as you go. Very well done, I'd recommend it as a welcome departure from the norm.

It would be excellent reading for the religious, which I do not believe in man's interpretation of god but a mixture of science and a higher power. BUT, well written, easy to follow and read. I did enjoy the book and the different way of looking at life. Well done.

This is an easy to read yet reflective novel, with great character development and lots of excitement. I cannot say enough good things about this first tribute from Terrence King . This book packs not only lingering principle but a complex delivery of character association . Looking forward to Kings next release!!!
